Customer Review: Excellent album
I think this is a great starter album for those who may not have heard Paloma San Basilio. She has a wonderful voice, and can sing anything from dance to sultry formats.

Have you ever gone into an audition and thought to yourself I should have come in better prepared? Every teen I know, who is involved in auditioning for theater, has voiced this to me over the years. There are some very simple procedures that will allow you to come out of every audition feeling as if you have done your best. From my experience, this is all an actor can expect of his or herself. It should be the focus of any audition you attend. Here are the ten things to keep in mind for that feel good experience after each audition. Make them a habit. Follow them each time and you will feel like a winner, whether or not you get the part.

  • Become familiar and learn a much as possible about the audition requirements before going to the audition, then practice, practice, practice.
  • Choose age appropriate monologues and audition songs, if required.
  • Make eye contact and greet the panel warmly as soon as you enter the audition room.
  • Smile, relax and be yourself.
  • If you are singing, go directly to the accompanist with your clearly marked music and if you need to instruct them as to the tempo, sing a few bars softly...do not snap your fingers.
  • Introduce yourself and the material you will be performing in a confident, clear voice.
  • Memorize the names of the composers or playwrights who authored your selections.
  • Pause in between pieces, but practice before hand to stay within the allotted amount of time, if there is one.
  • Be sure to understand the play from which a monologue or song is chosen in the event the director asks you questions about the show.
  • Thank the panel when you finish your pieces, smile and pause briefly for any additional instructions from them, but do not linger in the room.

Keep in mind that every audition, in reality, is a job interview and that you are being observed from the minute you walk into the audition room. Take the opportunity each time to demonstrate not only your talent, but your personal characteristics. Let your personality shine through, and remember that the casting director and audition panel are not there to judge you harshly. They are there to do their job, which is to cast a show to the best of their ability. Learn to take auditioning in stride, as this is part of an actors life. If you decide to work professionally, it is something you will be experiencing for a long, long time. Take it seriously, but have some fun, too. Break a leg!

Beverly Stone has volunteered with a performing arts kids group for the past ten years. During this time she has worked in various capacities on the production of many shows but her main job has been to facilitate the training of the group's members. Many of these kids have gone on to become professionals, several of them are currently on Broadway. She recently decided to bring her knowledge online and created a Website and Blog which serves as a guide for kids and teens interested in singing, dancing and acting. She is dedicated to young people who are interested in training to work in professional theater by becoming "triple threats". http://www.musical-theater-kids.com

Coldplay - Color Stripe T-Shirt

Coldplay t-shirt with pictures of band members in a color stripe on the front.

Origin:

Mambo originated in Havana, Cuba in the 40s. The Mambo was originally played as a Rumba with an emphasis on 2 or 4. Once introduced, it fast led to other variations. Although Mambo did not last long and is only danced by advanced dancers today, it led to other styles that became popular such as Salsa and Cha-cha.

Music:

Mambo is an up-tempo dance rythm, usually around 200 bpm. Mambo, like Salsa is played in 4/4 with all 4 beats being evenly accented. Like a lot of Latin American rythms, percussion forms a very important part of the music.

Dance:

Mambo is probably one of the toughest dances to learn, especially is you are already used to dancing one of the other Latin styles like Salsa. Although the music is 4/4, the stepping is quite different. The steps are taken on the second beat as opposed to the first beat, which is one of the main differences that throw most dancers off. The other difference is that the weight change takes place three times in every four beats whereas only two steps are taken!

Latinos NZ Popularity Scale: 1/10

Mambo is rarely danced in Latin clubs in New Zealand, and is rarely taught in training institutes.

Coming Out of the Dark

Designed as a companion to the singer's 1991 Into The Light--World Tour concert video, this look behind the scenes in Gloria Estefan's career draws drama and urgency from her recovery following a disastrous bus accident, which crippled the Cuban-American performer even as her popularity pushed further into the pop mainstream. Produced for the video arm of her record company, Coming Out of the Dark is hardly an objective documentary, laced as it is with testimonials from executives and frankly designed as a valentine to the feisty star; when we're given an "informal" look at Estefan composing new material in her music room, there isn't a figurative hair out of place as captured through these expertly shot segments.

The story, however, is intrinsically compelling, and Estefan offers her fans glimpses into the genesis of the songs from her Into the Light album. The singer's steely resolve, which doubtless explained the speed of her recovery, is visible, too, as is her sure sense of command over recording sessions. Brief performance excerpts show her saucy style of salsa-drenched pop, as well as less satisfying stabs at boiler-plate pop-rock songs that were aimed squarely at the charts. A segment chronicling a video shoot with choreographer-turned-director Kenny Ortega reveals both the technical intricacy of shooting elaborate dance sequences and the hyperbolic coddling platinum stars can expect from their most diplomatic handlers. --Sam Sutherland

Customer Review: Re: ASAP

A few companies are combining the new balance detection of the Wii Fit Balance Board and motion detection of the Wii remotes to create the first Cheerleading games for the Wii.

Below are two of the first Cheerleading games ever created on the Wii, We Cheer and All Star Cheer Squad. These two games are primarily targeted at younger girls which isn't that common in the video game world. The new cheer leading games will also make extensive use of the Wii Fit Balance Board to detect steps and moves and also heavily rely on the motion detection controls of the Wii Remotes to detect hand movements, spins, kicks and poses.

We Cheer
One of the first cheerleading games coming out will be Wii Cheer release date unknown right now, created by Namco. We Cheer takes a fun customizable approach to this new genre, the game looks like it will offer a lot of different options so each person playing can have a unique experience.

The game uses real songs from some of the hottest music stars from teen sensations like Hilary Duff and Aly and AJ to the 70s disco bands. We Cheer also allows you to customize your cheerleaders outfit which some people can spend hours doing. The game contains multiple modes depending on how you're feeling. You can chose to burn calories in Exercise Mode or compete for the Captian position with a friend in 2 player Campaign Mode. You can even battle it out with up to 4 players in Party Mode to find out who is the best cheerleader.

We Cheer Features:

* Hit Songs - Dance and cheer to the hottest music from artists of the past, present and future.

* Endless Character Customization - Create the perfect competition outfit.

* Engaging Modes - Exercise Mode, Campaign Mode, Party Mode.

* Really Addictive Gameplay - Spin, kick, jump and dance to various choreographed routines.

All Star Cheer Squad
Another Cheerleading game coming out is All Star Cheer Squad release date October 20, 2008, created by THQ. All Star Cheer Squad pulls out all the stops and takes more of a "cheerleading experience" simulation approach. In this game you actually follow a year in the life of a cheerleader. You'll learn new cheers, participate in the practices and even create your own routines to make the squad and eventually become captain.

This game also seems to take a serious direction with the dancing, the choreography is done by Tony G. who also choreographed the movie Bring It On! So you can definitely expect your child to get a workout.

All Star Cheer Squad Features:

* Use the Wii Fit Board to balance and perform stunts

* Use the Wii remote and nunchuck to perform dozens of real-world cheer/dance moves

* Compete in squad and one-on-one cheer-offs

* Customize the look of your team including body, facial features, hair and outfits

* Learn new moves and choreograph your own cheer routines to music

This adds to a new wave of exercise games for the Wii Fit. While these games are not completely targeted towards exercise, you can see how they would give you a good workout.

There also aren't that many "girl games" on the market but with these two Cheerleading games coming out expect people to really start to take a look into the genre, especially if these cheerleading games do well which I think they will.
