Dancing Away Your Unsightly Belly Bulge

One of the greatest things you can do for your body is to dance to the cadence of pleasing music. Many scientific studies have shown that dance can improve your outlook on life and prevent depression and anxiety. Indeed, those who dance quite a bit have fewer injuries, stronger muscles and stay lean and trim. Staying in shape, improving your physical and mental health and taking off unnecessary weight is very wise. So, why is it that more people do not partake of the sport of dance?

Many people have fragile egos and low self-esteem and keeping rhythm to dance is not so easy for many folks. It takes practice and perhaps even dancing lessons. Some folks do not wish to take dance lessons because it makes them feel silly, of course, everyone has to start somewhere and it's a lot sillier to be unhappy and overweight and do not nothing about it. That makes no sense at all. So, where can one start?

Probably the best place to start is to consider what type of music you like best and figure out where they play that music and see if you fit into that group of people. Every city has various dancing clubs and you can either look them up online or peruse the "what's happening" section of your local newspaper. I think what you'll soon find is that there are many choices and options. Thus you can pick what's best for your style, level of skill and attitude and you'll "feel like dancing, dancing, dance the night away!" It's time to get thin and find yourself as a healthier and happier you.

Capoeira: A Short Summary of History and Technique

The martial art of Capoeira was originally created over 400 years ago in Brazil by the African slaves. Unlike other martial arts, capoeira mixes music, dance, acrobatics, and mischievous play into an art form of beauty and finesse. Once recognized, Capoeira showed the world that it is an effective fighting art form. The style is more than a martial art, but also a social event that is rich in tradition and
history. A truly powerful martial art, capoeira resembles a collaboration of dance, fighting, and exotic movements - and even a game.

The first thing one notices when watching Capoeira is the music and weird instruments. Capoeira is played to the sound of a long bow like instrument called the beribau. This along with a tambourine and conga like drum comprise of the rhythm section of the capoeira ensemble. The lyrics, music and tempo all effect the way each capoeira game is played. A capoerista (or player) must know many different songs and rhythms in order to effectively play a good game of Capoeira. When watching the game played, spectators are normally in awe from the movements. The jogo consists of a circle, with the players in the middle and the musicians at the foot of the circle.

Capoeristas begin the game by kneeling at the foot of where the instruments are being played, and then entering the circle with a cartwheel, somersault or other acrobatic move. Once the game has started, the two capoeristas try and trick or confuse their opponent with a combination or feints, kicks and counter attacks. It can take many years to become a master of capoeira, since it requires an almost uncanny sense of space, a flexible body and a calm mind to be able to fully express oneself in a capoeira jogo.

From a defensive position, Capoeira is flashy, imaginative, and also very useful, as the kicks seem to come out of nowhere and can be very hard to defend against. The attacker or opponent has no clue what to expect from the student. The Capoeira student defends himself through the use of dancing movements and acrobatic techniques, executing a fluidity that up until Capoeira were only dreamt of.

The game of Capoeira is really big in Brazil, with thousands of students learning the martial art. It isnt one of the most popular in the United States, although it is offered. In South America it is more prevalent, with jogo games being played in the streets. Many martial arts students dont want to learn Capoeira for the simple fact that the movements can be a bit of a risk. Once you see how the style is performed, it can make you jump out of your seat.
Over the last couple of decades, the art has grown a lot. In 1974, the art of Capoeira became the national sport of Brazil, proving that just about everyone in Brazil had accepted it. As time continues to pass, you can count on more and more competitions and capoeira studios to surface - introducing this truly excellent martial art to newer generations.

Musicians: What Chords Do You Absolutely, Positively Have To Know?

As you probably know, there are thousands and thousands of different chords in music - everything from basic major chords to minor 7ths to 13ths to suspensions to poly-chords. Someday, you might want to learn all those chords if you don't already know them.

But meanwhile, there are 3 chords -- just 3 -- that you absolutely, positively have to know. If you don't know these three, there's hardly a song in the whole world that you could play. But by knowing just 3 chords, you can play hundreds, if not thousands of songs!

Really?

Really.

Are you ready? Here they are:

I IV V

Huh? What's all that about?

Here's what:

In every key there are 3 chords -- just 3 chords -- which are known as "primary chords" -- chords that occur way more than other chords. They are like family members of that particular key. They are groups of notes built on the 1st note of the scale, the 4th note of that scale, and the 5th note of that scale. (Those are 3-note chords called "triads" -- in another article we will get into 4 and 5 note chords.)

For example, here is the C scale on the keyboard. It runs from C up to C and octave higher. The I chord is built on the first note of the C scale, and so on:

So if I build a chord on the "I" -- every other scale note up from C, the chord is C, E, and G -- known as the "C major chord".

If I build a chord on the "IV" -- every other scale note up from F, the chord is F, A, and C -- known as the "F major chord".

If I build a chord on the "V" -- every other scale note up from G, the chord is G, B, and D -- known as the "G major chord".

Please notice, if you haven't already, that those 3 chords contain ALL the notes in the C scale!

So what?

So any melody - tune - in the key of C (as long as it just uses the 8 notes of the scale) can be harmonized just by playing one of those 3 chords!

Think about that -- that's a HUGE insight that most people never get.

So, in any given key you can play in, there are PRIMARY CHORDS -- chords that occur way more than other chords. They are like family members of that particular key.

At your house, let's say you have 3 people in your family -- your spouse, your child, and you. On the same block, but down the street a few houses, lives your cousin and her family.

At any given moment, who are the most likely people to be in your house?

The Terminator?

Hillary?

Dubba?

I don't think so.

It's possible, of course, but not too likely. If I had to guess, I would say it would be either you, your spouse, or your child. It might be your cousin down the street -- there's a much better chance of that than, say, David Letterman or Prince Charles -- but my best odds would be to guess that the family members would be there.

It's the same way with chords. In any given key, there are 3 "family members" that are residents of that key -- the I chord, the IV chord, and the V chord. They are far and away the most likely chords to occur in any given key.

For example, if I am playing in the Key of C, and the first chord is the C chord and I have to guess what the next chord is, I would guess that it would be either the F chord or the G chord. Why? Because those are the other "family members". So we have narrowed the odds a great deal just by knowing who the members of the family are.

Does that mean that there are always just 3 chords in a song? No, but there are literally hundreds of songs that are made of just 3 chords.

The Primary Piano Chords ("the fam") Of All the Major Keys

Here are the primary chords (the family chords) of all the major keys (remember that the primary chords are the I chord, the IV chord, and the V chord based on the scale of that particular key):

Key of C: C, F, G

Key of G: G, C, D

Key of D: D, G, A

Key of A: A, D, E

Key of E: E, A, B

Key of B: B, E, F#

Key of F: F, Bb, C

Key of Bb: Bb, Eb, F

Key of Eb: Eb, Ab, Bb

Key of Ab: Ab, Db, Eb

Key of Db: Db, Gb, Ab

Key of Gb: Gb, Cb, Db

Do you have to know all these chords in all these keys?

No.

You can choose to play in just one key, or just a few keys.

But what you MUST know is the 3 chords in whatever key you want to play in! That means that the stark beginner can learn 3 chords in just a few minutes, and be able to play along with thousands of tunes, because most folk songs, hymns, country songs, and many rock songs just use the 3 basic chords. That's why people who know zilch about music can pick up a guitar, learn 3 chords, and strum along while singing everything from "On Top Of Old Smoky" to "Amazing Grace" to "My Country 'Tis Of Thee" to "Auld Lang Syne" to "Silent Night" to..........................well, you get the idea. And not only a guitar, but a piano, keyboard, or whatever.

Is Music A Religion?

Lately I am thinking about the power that music has to influence especially the young generation.

I can say that some people are addicted to their ipods and their favorite artists are their new idols. Many of them are thinking that music is just a part of somebodys entertainment, but to me music looks a lot like a new religion.

Music is getting people together and music is separating people, music is bringing a new culture and music is ending a culture, music is mobilizing people for war and music is making them cry. Yes, music is more than few keys joined together, music is a strong tool that deeply changes the young generation.

Teenagers don't want to be like their dads (like in the past), but they want to be like their favorite artist. They don't faint when they see so much suffering around them, but they faint when they see their idol. It's like their idols are taken by their music into a whole new world - the world of fame and glory.

If you want to be successful, if you want to impress the people around you, you have to look and act like a famous singer. The same tendency comes to the Christian music too, almost everybody is looking and prefers to be like one of the singers they love.

I've been to a Christian concert and I was shocked to hear that some of the well known Christian artists are doing a "special favor" to the present pastors, giving them an autograph... It's such a pitiful idea... Why does a pastor need an autograph ? We are suppose to worship Jesus and not people!
The main role for Christian music is to praise God and edify His people.

Wedding Dance Tips

There is nothing more special than your wedding dance. Just the thought of the first dance between a husband and wife is enough to take your breath away. From the most elegant of waltzes to the most basic side-to-side, unrehearsed steps, it is always one of the most touching moments of any wedding.

Sometimes, however, watching the new couple dance at their wedding is a lot more romantic to witness than to experience first-hand. While everyone watching is thinking, "They look so happy," "What a beautiful couple," something much different is going on in the minds of the bride and groom. The bride is second-guessing her shoes, hoping that her dress doesn't get tangled and praying that her new husband won't try to add a new "move" that will go horribly wrong and result in flinging her across the dance floor. The groom is wondering how fancy he's supposed to get with the dance, hoping that he isn't squishing her dress too much and crossing his fingers that he doesn't step on the bride's feet, which he can't even see. And both of them are thinking "Please don't let me trip. Please don't let me trip. Please don't let me trip."

Rather than let everyone else at your wedding enjoy your wedding dance more than you do, why not learn your own personally-choreographed wedding dance? Whether you and your fianc love to dance and just need some guidance and practice or if you have never danced together at all, something memorable and romantic can be choreographed especially for you.

You don't have to worry about what level of experience you have. Some of the most elegant dances are the most simple to learn. We just take things one step at a time. With a little bit of practice, you'll begin to become comfortable with your special dance.

The first thing you need to do is choose your song. Some people have an "our song" but many don't. If you don't have a special song, go through your music collection or ask your friends and relatives what song they chose for their wedding dance. If the song isn't important to you, but you've always imagined a Waltz, a Rumba or a Salsa for your wedding dance, we can listen to a few songs and choose one together.

Once you start learning your specially-choreographed wedding dance you will have plenty of time to practice before your wedding. Remember that these are private lessons, so if you need extra help with something or if some spot in the choreography just isn't flowing right, we can either practice a bit more on that section or change it to something more comfortable for you. As you become comfortable with your wedding dance, you will become more and more excited to show it off on your big day.

With a little bit of time and practice you and your new husband or wife can enjoy your wedding dance even more than you ever dreamed possible.

Want to learn to dance? Wish you could move your body confidently on the dance floor? Or would you just like to have a great excuse to get out and meet people? Well for all of the above come and visit Dance Vogue where professional dancer and teacher Natalie Beck show you how to take the next step.

If you have your wedding around the corner and are worried about that first dance, Natalie has a lot of experience helping couples get confident and looking great dancing together in a short period of time. Have a look at her wedding dancing lessons to get up to speed.

Making Love With Words - Learning Spicy Spanish For Your Latin Lover

Do you have a Latin girlfriend or boyfriend? Then you know what it feels like when they unleash their words of passion in Spanish during your private moments.

Would you like to give it back at them?

You don't need to speak fluent Spanish. Learn to ignite the fire of your lover with some sexy and romantic phrases in their own language. Heck, you can even turn on lovers who don't even speak Spanish with a few well timed passionate phrases.

Here are a few ways to use this hot, sexy language to your advantage.

Learn a Few Phrases

The first step is to learn some sexy or romantic Spanish words and phrases. Here's a couple to begin with.

My love. Mi amor. (mee ah-mohr.)

I've never felt this way before. Nunca me he sentido as. (noon-kah meh eh sehn-tee-doh ah-sEE.)

I've been thinking about you. He estado pensando en ti. (eh ehs-tah-doh pehn-sahn-doh ehn tee.)

I can't live without you. No puedo vivir sin ti. (noh pweh-doh vee-veer seen tee.)

I want you. Te deseo. (teh deh-seh-oh.)

I love you. Te amo. (teh ah-moh.)

Kiss me. Bsame. (bEH-sah-meh.)

Make love to me. Hazme el amor. (ahs-meh ehl ah-mohr.)

Pronunciation and Accent

Knowing the words and phrases is a good start. But they will be most effective if you say them the right way. Before you attempt to melt your lover with words, practice.

Number one, pronounce the word correctly. If you know someone who speaks the language, ask them to demonstrate the word or phrase for you. If you don't know someone who speaks Spanish, find a book or website that "spells out" each word phonetically.

Also, really try to understand what each word in a phrase means. Actually knowing what you are saying when you say it, and actually meaning it, will put more power behind the words.

After you have gotten the pronunciation down, practice saying the word or phrase over and over again. Do it whenever you are alone and have a free moment, like when you are riding in the elevator, putting gas in the car, washing dishes, and so on. You want to practice so much that, eventually, the words roll effortlessly off your tongue.

Spanish is one of the sexiest languages around. And, by learning a few simple words and phrases, you can begin to master the art of making love with words.

Top Ten Things To Do At A Rock Show

My sister and I have been going to local rock shows on a regular basis (usually at least one per weekend) for a little over two years now, and between waiting for the bands to set up, sound checks, and the random nothing in between acts, there can be a lot of downtime. We realized that there are quite a number of fun/funny things to do while were waiting, so we thought wed make a list of them ala top ten style.

Top 10 things to do at a show

10. Find the creepy drunk people for safety/entertainment purposes.

Every bar has them - the drunks who cant quite control themselves. They either end up making out with everyone, or picking fights with everyone. Its best to find them early in the night and keep an eye on them.

9. Take pictures of everyone

Take pictures of your friends, band members, random strangers. Its a great way to meet people!

8. Check out the band's merch

Very important. Many bands travel long distances to play and they depend on merch sales to pay for gas. Its a great way to get to know band members who tend to hang out at their merch stands, and sometimes you can get some free stuff, too.

7. Drink

Hey, thats what bars are for, right? While youre at it, buy drinks for the people sitting around you. Youll get some instant best friends that way!

6. Decide what to get at Sheetz on the ride home

Sheetz is a gas station in our area that serves food. You can substitute any place that sells food.

5. Try to guess how many people are taller than you.

You can substitute the word taller here with just about anything. (We use taller since were vertically-challenged.)

4. Stand at the bar until someone buys you a drink

This one works for us on occasion , usually when we cant seem to get the bartenders attention. If we stand there long enough, someone will get the bartenders attention and order our drinks for us.

3. Make friends with the bouncer (it will help you later when he's kicking everyone else out)

Plus, the bouncer can get pretty lonely sitting by the door by himself. They can get a bad rep, but theyre usually pretty nice.

2. Watch the band

During their set or in between sets, bands can be pretty entertaining to watch. Many band members have that personality type where theyre always trying to entertain everyone around them, and they love to be the center of attention, so you might as well give them the attention they crave.

1. Write top ten lists.

Self-explanatory. One we wrote recently - Top Ten Reasons Rock Shows are Better Than Strip Clubs.

Why Learn Spanish?

Learning Spanish can do a lot for you and improve life in a number of countless ways.

For starters, you can improve your understanding of English. Yes, thats right! A lot of the vocabulary of English has Latin origins, much of which came to English by way of French. Since Spanish is also a Latin language, you will notice that as you study the language you will gain a better understanding of your native vocabulary. Similarly, both Spanish and English share Indo-European roots, so their grammar are similar. There probably isnt a more effective way to learn English grammar than by studying the grammar of another language, since studying forces you to think about how your language is structured. Its not unusual, for example, to gain an understanding of English verbs tenses and moods by learning how those verbs are used in Spanish.

Make Traveling Fun!

How about traveling? Sure, it is perfectly possible to visit Mexico, Spain or South America without speaking a word of Spanish. But it isnt close to half as much fun. By having an understanding of the Spanish language, it may allow you to see and do things that many other visitors dont get to. Also, the best way to truly understand a culture is to be able to speak the language. Sure you can learn a lot through a Lonely Planet guide, but its being able to communicate with the natives and the locals that will give you the experience of a lifetime. Being able to read a Latin American or Spanish newspaper, for example, can give you great insight into the places you visit and a better vision of what is going on in other parts of the world. Not to mention, Spanish offers a wealth of literature, both modern and traditional.

Learn Other Languages

Interested in learning other languages? Well, if you can learn Spanish, youll have an edge in learning the other Latin-based languages such as French, Italian and Portuguese. It can even help you learn Russian and German, since both also have Indo-European roots and have some characteristics that are present in Spanish but not English. In the end, learning Spanish will help you learn any language simply because by simply learning the structure of one language can give you a reference point for learning others.

In learning a foreign language, you are not going to find any easier language to learn than Spanish. Much of its vocabulary is similar to Englishs, and written Spanish is almost completely phonetic. Although mastering Spanish grammar can be a challenge, the basic grammar is straightforward enough that you will be able to communicate after just a few lessons.

Improve Your Career Opportunities

Being able to speak another language can also help you in your career. Without a doubt, if you live in the United States and you work in one of the helping professions like healthcare and teaching, your career options and opportunities will expand by knowing Spanish. But really, wherever you live, if youre in any occupation that involves international trade, communications, or tourism, youll find similar opportunities to use your new language skills. There is a limitless range of things you can do with Spanish!

Make Life More Interesting!

And finally, whether you enjoy talking, reading, or mastering challenges, youll find all of them in learning Spanish.
