The Sound of a Thousand Angry Suburbs

Wanna be a cowboy? That's an easy order to fill in Bandera, Texas, nicknamed "The Cowboy Capital of the World." In this community, located 50 miles northwest of San Antonio on TX 16, you cant toss a horseshoe without hitting a dude ranch, rodeo ground, western wear store, or dance hall.

Banderas Western heritage is a big draw to todays travelers but its roots date back to the founding days of Texas. Bandera Pass, located twelve miles north on TX 173, was first the site of numerous battles between the Spanish conquistadors and both Apache and Comanche Indians. According to one local legend, a flag (or bandera in Spanish) was placed here to mark the border between the forces.

Today the Wild West atmosphere lives on both in town and in the surrounding dude ranches. Whether youd like to "cowboy up" for a few days at a dude ranch or just grab some boots and dance to Western tunes along Main Street, Bandera has plenty of opportunities to get in touch with your inner cowboy.

Dude Ranches: Bandera is well known for its many dude ranches, the perfect way for you and your family to experience life as a cowboy for a few days. Properties like the Flying L Guest Ranch, the Mayan Ranch, Dixie Dude Ranch, and Twin Elm Guest Ranch will keep you busy with horseback rides, hayrides, fishing, cookouts, and more. You dont have to have any previous riding experience to enjoy the ranches. Typically the guest rates include three meals a day as well as Western entertainment and even supervised kids' programs. During the peak summer months, expect a minimum stay at many ranches.

Rodeos: Bandera is also synonymous with rodeos. One favorite held every Tuesday and Friday through the summer is at the Twin Elm Guest Ranch. For professional action, check out the Cowboy Capital PRCA Rodeo, held in May.

Honky Tonks: Another city might call them nightclubs, but there's nothing fancy about Bandera; this town proudly calls their downtown bars honky tonks. Live country music can be found most nights. One of the best known is Arkey Blues Silver Dollar. Dont miss the sawdust-covered floor (to encourage plenty of boot-scootin). Also on Main Street, the Cabaret Dancehall has shook to the sounds of country music for seven decades and often hosts many big name acts.

Cowboys on Main: During the warm weather months, downtown Bandera is transformed with a Saturday event called Cowboys on Main. Scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. right on Main Street, the event features horseback riding cowboys, storytellers, trick ropers, musicians, and a lot more. The event is sponsored by the Frontier Times Museums Living History Project. Save some time for a sop at the Frontier Times Museum. The museum dates back to 1927 and is a good place to learn more about Bandera's early days through cowboy paraphernalia, Native American arrowheads, and prehistoric artifacts.

For more information on vacationing in Bandera, call the Bandera Convention and Visitors Bureau at 800.364.3833 or 830.796.3045.

As you probably already know if you're reading this article, this dance mat has been sold out all over the country because of the recent "Hannah Montana fever" currently in full swing. I purchased this for my daughter for Christmas. She also has the older version of the dance mat. Here is my review of both products - both the new version with the wig and dvd and the old version, without the wig. There's also a link for where to get these hard-to-find items at the end of the article.

The New Version Features And Price:

The new version is the one that is flying off of stores right now. It features a blond Hannah wig, a microphone and the mat itself, which lights up. The premise of this toy is that the kids can learn dance moves to three Hannah Montana songs: "Who Said?," "Best Of Both Worlds" and "This Is My Life. " Dancing instructions appear on an included DVD and teach dance moves to the songs.

I want to say right off do not expect the wig to be the quality that you see Hannah wearing on TV. It isn't, but it's good enough to get the effect kids want. Also, your child will probably not be dancing like a professional dancer at the end of a play session, but your child will learn moves to Hannah songs. Kids basically just want to learn how to dance for the new Hannah movie or a Hannah concert and the Hannah Montana Mat accomplishes this while they have fun. The price of the new version mat is about $35 retail.

The Older Version Features And Price:

The older version does not have the wig included, but I would argue that the quality of the actual product is a bit better and the product will last a longer time. It plays the same songs as the newer version, but the lights and music sync better with the numbers on the mat. I honestly find this one more user friendly for younger kids. This one is very hard to find, but I think I like it better than the first.

All in all, my daughter loves both dance mats. She's a 7 year old little girl who just wants to dance and have fun. She doesn't expect she will dance just like Hannah. I love the fact that it gets her off the couch and she gets some exercise. Would I buy them again? Absolutely.

God Put a Smile Upon Your Face

Full title - God Put A Smile Upon Your Face. Exclusive Australian single from their 2002 album, 'Rush of Blood to the Head', is b/w three exclusive non-LP tracks, 'Murder', 'Politik' (Live), & a cover of the Echo & the Bunnymen's 'Lips Like Sugar' (Live). Copy Controlled. Capitol. 2003.
Customer Review: Probably the best compliation
Okay, I haven't really felt the need to review any of Coldplay's stuff, despite a certain affinity for the band. I had to remedy that for this single, as it quite literally brought a dream to life. But I'll get to that in a moment. "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" isn't their best song. Of course, I can't think of a "bad" Coldplay song, you can really only compare their songs to one another. This song is very melancholy and wonderful, it's just no "Yellow" or "Green Eyes". "Murder" is a good song. I didn't really catch anything that stood out, but I'll definitely give it another listen. "Politik" live is lovely, with a minute and a half intro before they get to the infamous opening guitar. And the gem of the album, the final track. I saw the cover of the single and went "Hm, new import. Bonus." Then I saw the sticker claiming "Contains all new Live versions of "Politik" and "Lips Like Sugar". I dropped what I was holding, stunned. For those of you who don't know, "Lips Like Sugar" is a song by Echo and the Bunnymen, one of Chris's favorite bands. Before I'd heard of Coldplay, I was an Echo and the Bunnymen buff. "Lips Like Sugar", bar none, is my favorite song. And apparantly, Coldplay agrees, since Chris introduces it by saying, "Here we go, this is one of the greatest songs in the world." And he's quite correct. Chris does an excellent job covering the vocals, never trying to imitate Ian's work on the original. the rest of the band plays the song spectacularly, a slightly faster version that the Bunnymen themselves do live. As I stated previously, this was a dream come true. Ever since I heard "Parachutes", I knew Coldplay and the Bunnymen had to do an album together. And while this isn't quite the same, it's still wonderful to hear. And a note to Ian, Will, and the gang: I think hearing you guys cover "Spies" would be awesome.

Def Jam Recordings - EMBROIDERED LOGO Hoodie , Burgundy

Def Jam was founded by Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin in Rubin's dorm room at New York University. The first releases on Def Jam Recordings were LL Cool J's I Need A Beat and the Beastie Boys' Rock Hard, both in 1984. The singles sold well, eventually lea

The term Ballroom Dancing is the most general and the oldest term that is used to describe formal dances and generally includes Waltz, Tango, Slow Foxtrot, Quickstep and Viennese Waltz dances as well as some of the Latin dances. There two types of waltz in this group, the Classic Waltz and the Viennese Waltz.

The Classic Waltz is known as the mother of dances as it was the first dance where people actually danced in front of each other. This made it a very exciting dance when it was first introduced. It is based on an 18th century Austrian folk-dance and the steps are based on a box step with a rotary motion. The Classic Waltz, or the 'slow' or 'English' Waltz as it is sometimes called, is known for a gliding motion with a slight rise and fall and is normally danced to a slow tempo which requires a large degree of control to dance well.

The Viennese Waltz on the other hand is elegant and beautiful to watch. It is sometimes seen in movies and even Disney cartoons! As the name suggests it is linked to Vienna where the Aristocracy danced the Viennese Waltz to music by Strauss and other classical composers. The Viennese Waltz is a faster movement than the Classical Waltz, and is danced at about 180 beats (58-60 measures) a minute, as opposed to about 90 beats per minute with 3 beats to the bar for the Classical Waltz.

The Viennese Waltz is a rotary motion where the dancers are constantly turning either in a clockwise (natural) or anti-clockwise (reverse) direction. This is interspersed with non-rotating change steps to switch between the directions of rotation. Furthermore, in a properly danced Viennese Waltz, couples do not pass, but turn continuously left and right while they travel counterclockwise around the floor following each other in procession. Although this dance is still danced on social occasions, it is more usual for the Classical Waltz to be used.

In the Standard dances such as the waltzes, men traditionally wear formal coat-tails, vests or waistcoats, and bow ties. Women wear elegant and colorful gowns, often with sheer fabric draped from the shoulders or arms. Partners remain in closed position facing each other, throughout the dance, and movements tend to be elegant and sweeping.

American Smooth allows more open work where the partners can separate from each other and dance in open positions. American Smooth can be best described as a variation of ballroom dancing with an enhanced range of movements and exciting steps. All basic principles and the technique of ballroom dancing still apply, however partners are not required to maintain a continuous body contact. The removal of the body contact restriction allows the dancers to perform a variety of new steps such as: lady under arm turns, spins, side by side positions, parallel turns, dips, drops and other variations that would never be allowed in the traditional ballroom dancing.

The term 'Ballroom' has been used to describe Waltz, Tango, Slow Foxtrot, Quickstep and Viennese Waltz as a group of dances together with a range of Latin dances such as the Rumba, Quickstep and Cha-Cha-Cha. Ballroom dances may have at one time also included historical dances like Minuet, Quadrille, Polonaise, Pas de Gras, and Mazurka. However there was no standard definition and so as different dances were introduced new terms were introduced to differentiate these. "Modern Ballroom" (in short "Modern"), was introduced in Britain to referring to Old Time, Sequence or Latin-American dances.

But in Europe the term "Modern" was already frequently used to describe a totally different type of dancing (eg. jazz or other form of solo dancing), so the term Standard was introduced instead. But "Standard" had an unclear meaning in America, where there is an American version of it called American Smooth. Therefore American's introduced the term "International Standard" to make the difference clear.

In spite of its historical image as a pastime for the privileged; formal competitions, sometimes referred to as DanceSport, allow participation by less advanced dancers at various proficiency levels. In the United States, amateur dance proficiency levels are defined by USA Dance (formerly United States Amateur Ballroom Dance Association,) The International Olympic Committee now recognizes competitive ballroom dance. It is doubtful that it will be included as an official sport in the Olympic Games especially in light of efforts to reduce the number of offerings, but the application has not been permanently rejected.

Of all of the dances, the Waltz is the perfect one to learn first. It can be learnt in a few minutes and yet can take a lifetime to master.

Complices

Luis Miguel returns in 2008 hotter than ever with his long awaited studio album, Complices. This sensational worldwide music artist has released 23 albums and sold over 52 million albums in his career. Internationaly known for his romantic ballads, crooning vocals, and chart topping hits, Luis Miguel has sold out shows around the world. Manuel Alejandro has joined in the production of Complices bringing even more star power to this this album.
Customer Review: A good album destroyed by three songs
The album Should have not included the three songs mentioned in the previous review. These songs cut the flow of the mood, they are faster and over produced. I can't believe Luis Miguel is still singing those poppy cheesy styled songs he used to sing in the eighties. It is a shame to ruin such a great line up of songs with three songs that should have been sung by Tom Jones. I believe an album that consists mostly of ballads should include mid tempo, sexy, groovy songs to break the monotony, not cheesy poppy disco songs with choruses that will make your woman jump out of your bed and attach herself to the ceiling like a freaked-out tarantula. Luis Miguel should sing ballads,R&B,soul,Jazz, even sexy chilled-out house, but leave those songs for Tom Jones, he is the king of that style.
Customer Review: Now the marvel of Complices.
This disk is for the sensitive people and the people that understand music. It's not a contemporary radioplay. Luis Miguel interprets beatifully every song. Passion and provocative poetry are in each song of the disc. Luis Miguel and Manuel Alejandro created a great joy for those who know about music.

The first dance at a wedding has traditionally been a slow dance, usually a waltz or something similar. But what if you and your fianc aren't the waltz type? What if you want something more fun and energetic? You've probably thought about this quite a bit and are wondering if it would be too odd to do something different. Would it be better to just go ahead and do a waltz and forget about it?

Absolutely not. If you want to do something different for your first dance, then you should. Your family and friends know you, and they love you. They want to see you dance in a style that reflects your love for each other, to a song that you love. Odd would be watching a lively, energentic couple waltzing their way through a song they don't like very much just to get to the rest of the music and have some real fun.

If you come out and do a Cha Cha for your first dance, on the other hand, not only will the whole room cheer, but it will be a first dance that nobody, especially you and your new spouse, will ever forget. You'll have a fantastic time doing it and your friends and family will be absolutely entranced.

Nearly any style of dance can be customized to fit into your wedding. If you want to do a classic dance, a Foxtrot or Quickstep can be adjusted so that your dress doesn't get in the way. If you want to perform a dance that's more passionate, but aren't sure if it's appropriate for your wedding, that's nothing to worry about. Even a passionate dance such as a Tango or a Rumba can be toned down a bit if you like.

When you and your fianc come in for your wedding dance lessons, remember that this dance is being customized just for you. If there is a step you are having difficulty with, we can work on it until you've got it or we can change things a bit to make it easier. If there is something that you don't like or aren't comfortable with in the original choreography, that can be modified as well.

If you would like to do a different style of dance for your wedding dance, but want your family to join you as well, consider choosing two songs for your first dance. You and your new spouse can perform your first dance on your own during the first song, then the DJ can invite your friends and family to join you on the dance floor for a more traditional dance style when the second song begins.

When you're at your wedding, remember that more than anything your family and friends are there to celebrate with you. They want to see you and your new spouse enjoy yourselves and have a wonderful time on your special day. Nothing could be more lovely and more memorable than sharing a bit of your hearts with the people you love by performing a dance that truly reflects the love you feel for each other.

Learning to dance is the same as any new skill. It takes patience and practice. Unlike other skills though, dance lessons are fun at every stage. Yes, it becomes more fun the better you get, but all beginners in my lessons have fun right away.

So if you are having fun right away, imagine how much fun you have when you can move your body confidently on the dance floor. Dancing really is a great way to get fit, meet people, improve your confidence and have fun. For private or wedding dance lessons visit my site: http://www.dancevogue.com.au/

Starting new things for your child sometime difficult, but you still have to do it. Potty training is one phase that your child has to go through. So, find out when is your child ready for potty training. Here are those five ready signs:

1. Takes Off Own Clothes

Lets face it. The first step to becoming dry begins with your toddlers ability to recognize he has to go to the bathroom. The second step is his ability to pull down his pants, or lift up her dress. The third step is actually going to use the potty. If your child begins insisting on taking off his clothes then he probably is ready to begin training for the potty.

2. Talks about Using the Potty

He may say, I want to use the potty. Or, he may just point to it and sit down. Either case he is showing an extreme interest in the little chair. Well, what do you do if hes interested in sitting; maybe hell be interested in using it. You never know unless you try. Hey diapers are expensive why spend more on them if you dont have to.

3. Does a Potty Dance?

There are some children doing potty dance? Does your little one have a routine? Does he stomp, turn, twist, and grab his groin like Michael Jackson? If he does, then thats his potty dance. Hes ready, ready, and ready if he has his own version and he dances it whether theres music on or not.

4. Shows an Interest in the Bathroom or Toilet

This is the big koruna of all ready signs. The big earthquake so to speak. If your child is curious about the bathroom or toilet, then hes ready to learn how to use it. Is he curious about how it flushes? Well, thats because he wants to know how that giant white chair works. Why does it make that sound? Its a noise like no other. Hes not being bad when you have to drag him out of the toilet. He wants to know what the toilet is. He wants to know how it works. He is ready, ready, and ready for potty training.

5. Stays Dry Overnight & During Naps

This is a hard readiness sign to understand. If you child staying dry overnights and at naptime that is the sign that he is ready for potty training. In any event, your child is ready if he displays this sign.

Now, does your child exhibit any two of these ready signs? If so, then get ready to do your potty training. You will never know those signs if you are not pay attention to their reaction.

This is really an excellent text for use both in the classroom and on your own. This is a wonderful way to begin training muscles associated with articulation to pronounce different sounds required for singing in other languages. Moriarty provides an excellent foundation for beginning to learn the International Phonetic Alphabet. This is a great reference for IPA symbols and provides a clear, analytical way for forming, both in the brain and with articulators, pretty much any sound in the languages covered. A few companies are combining the new balance detection of the Wii Fit Balance Board and motion detection of the Wii remotes to create the first Cheerleading games for the Wii.

Below are two of the first Cheerleading games ever created on the Wii, We Cheer and All Star Cheer Squad. These two games are primarily targeted at younger girls which isn't that common in the video game world. The new cheer leading games will also make extensive use of the Wii Fit Balance Board to detect steps and moves and also heavily rely on the motion detection controls of the Wii Remotes to detect hand movements, spins, kicks and poses.

We Cheer
One of the first cheerleading games coming out will be Wii Cheer release date unknown right now, created by Namco. We Cheer takes a fun customizable approach to this new genre, the game looks like it will offer a lot of different options so each person playing can have a unique experience.

The game uses real songs from some of the hottest music stars from teen sensations like Hilary Duff and Aly and AJ to the 70s disco bands. We Cheer also allows you to customize your cheerleaders outfit which some people can spend hours doing. The game contains multiple modes depending on how you're feeling. You can chose to burn calories in Exercise Mode or compete for the Captian position with a friend in 2 player Campaign Mode. You can even battle it out with up to 4 players in Party Mode to find out who is the best cheerleader.

We Cheer Features:

* Hit Songs - Dance and cheer to the hottest music from artists of the past, present and future.

* Endless Character Customization - Create the perfect competition outfit.

* Engaging Modes - Exercise Mode, Campaign Mode, Party Mode.

* Really Addictive Gameplay - Spin, kick, jump and dance to various choreographed routines.

All Star Cheer Squad
Another Cheerleading game coming out is All Star Cheer Squad release date October 20, 2008, created by THQ. All Star Cheer Squad pulls out all the stops and takes more of a "cheerleading experience" simulation approach. In this game you actually follow a year in the life of a cheerleader. You'll learn new cheers, participate in the practices and even create your own routines to make the squad and eventually become captain.

This game also seems to take a serious direction with the dancing, the choreography is done by Tony G. who also choreographed the movie Bring It On! So you can definitely expect your child to get a workout.

All Star Cheer Squad Features:

* Use the Wii Fit Board to balance and perform stunts

* Use the Wii remote and nunchuck to perform dozens of real-world cheer/dance moves

* Compete in squad and one-on-one cheer-offs

* Customize the look of your team including body, facial features, hair and outfits

* Learn new moves and choreograph your own cheer routines to music

This adds to a new wave of exercise games for the Wii Fit. While these games are not completely targeted towards exercise, you can see how they would give you a good workout.

There also aren't that many "girl games" on the market but with these two Cheerleading games coming out expect people to really start to take a look into the genre, especially if these cheerleading games do well which I think they will.

Love, Actually

Customer Review: This is a crappy movie for jerks
Okay, so I bought this movie for my wife for Christmas. I might as well have punched her in the face instead. As stated above, there was no Coldplay music in the "film" and almost no VIDEO of the band either. They just found random people who (claimed) they knew the band members back in the day and they all told meaningless, mundane facts. Sample: Chris Martin is the singer for Coldplay. He also plays the piano. Let's hear what his school chum has to say... "Chris was a normal lad in school. He played the piano in school and was popular. " Isn't that fascinating? If you're ready for an hour of this exact sort of insight, overlaid frequently by early nineties-style editing (think middle school health class video) and extremely lame, pseudo-Coldplay music, then you, my friend, are in for a treat. The "producers" of this "film" owe Coldplay an apology. And, more importantly, owe me twenty bucks. Actually, make it thirty, just to make up for me actually having to watch it. If there was a way to give zero stars- or better, negative stars- I would.
Customer Review: Please do not waste your money
I was completely disappointed in this DVD. First of all it is an un-authorized DVD so there is no Coldplay music at all in the video. You will see mostly still photos of the band and it is 99 percent chat with "friends" of the band. Absolute waste of money. Misrepresented garbage.

Origin:

Samba originated in Brazil, with the music containing a combination of Iberian, Native and African influences. The modern day Samba as we know it was developed from a Brazilian style called Choro. Samba is a big part of the world famous carnival parade, and nicely compliments the Bateria.

Music:

Samba has a lot of variations, but most variations have one thing in common: A heavy percussion presence. Samba Music is played in 2/4. The common modern day Samba has the Pandeiro as the most common percussion instrument. The Violo is the other instrument which is always present. The music can vary across all themes, and is not specific to any them or emotion.

Dance:

Samba's most common dance variation is "Samba no p" which is a solo dance. Men dance with their whole feet on the ground, whereas women usually dance using the balls of their feet. The rythm is played in 2/4 and the stepping is called as "and-a-one and-a-two". The knees are used a lot in Samba, with one knee bending at a time with the upper body straight.

Latinos NZ Popularity Scale: 5/10

Samba is slowly becoming more popular in New Zealand, although Latin Clubs tend to stick to other forms of Latin Music. However, some clubs now have Samba Nights with Samba and other Brazilian rythms and dance.

New Zealand's biggest Samba event is Jambalaya. Don't miss it next time!

A Taste of Salsa, Volume II (Spanish & English Language)

In Volume II, Lisa and Andres build on the steps and lead/follow techniques that were introduced in Volume I. In addition, they show you more advanced turning combinations and new ways of moving across the dance floor. They also pinpoint suggestions for developing your own style. In addition, equal attention is paid to both the leads and follows so that you become a dynamic couple and a solid individual dancer. With these new patterns, your passion for Salsa and your confidence on the dance floor will continue to grow.

In this volume, the following steps are covered:
Basic three turn combination
Hand over heart turning combination
Hand over shoulder turning combination
The wrap
Adding style to your dancing
The walk
Putting it all together

With a bit of practice, you will soon become a Salsero.

Instruction for all volumes in the A Taste of Salsa series is given in both English and Spanish.
Customer Review: Great basics
If you are a novice and looking to learn in a correct and structured way, these videos (Vol I & II) are very sound and easy to understand. The videos are introductory, so if you already know the basics, perhaps they are not for you. Don't pay attention to the criticism of those who weren't smart enough to read the description and look for more information about the videos from the internet or the instructors' website. The videos are clearly labeled basic. That's why they are titled "A Taste of...." I gave it four stars because even though the intent to make the tapes universal by making them bilingual is good, it does tend to slow the lessons a bit. Why not use subtitles for the alternate language?
Customer Review: Salsa Instruction Starts Here
For those who wish to learn salsa through videos, this is the one for you. True, there are excellent intructional videos in the market; but without a strong basics, all those fancy moves shown in more advanced videos will not work for you. The dance instructors give you enough tips and alert you of common pitfalls so you can start dancing with proper form and style.

When Xavier Cugat, the rumba king, appeared with his Chihuahuas in movies and on television in the late 1930s and 1940s the Chihuahua breed received great exposure and became quite popular.

Because of the Chihuahuas exposure in movies and television, the Chihuahua began one of the most meteoric rises in numbers of any breed in American Kennel Club history. The Chihuahua reached its peak in 1964 and became the third most popular breed in the United States. About a century after its discovery, the Chihuahua became one of the most recognizable breeds. The AKC now registered an average of 40,000 Chihuahuas each year. Both long and short haired Chihuahuas are popular as lap dogs around the world.

For many people Chihuahua is the only dog for them. However, Chihuahuas are not for everyone. Chihuahuas can be quite challenging.

Size of the Chihuahua

For many people the size of a dog is most important. The Chihuahuas small size makes it convenient for matters such as space, food bills, grooming and exercise. However, small dogs dont make effective protection dogs, they run underfoot and people can easily trip over them. They can be easily injured by falling objects, larger dogs, and wild children. They are more susceptible to cold weather, missed meals and certain health problems. They are, however, extra cute dressed in t-shirts, coats, dresses, shirts and just about any kind of clothing on the dog market today.

Chihuahuas are not a good choice for homes filled with children or heavy-footed adults. Chihuahuas cannot live outdoors. They cannot withstand cold weather and need a lot of companionship with humans. Even long coated Chihuahuas cannot cope with cold weather.

Temperament of the Chihuahua

Chihuahuas are intelligent, willing to please and make trustworthy companions. They are one-family or one-person dogs. They can become devoted to the point of becoming clingy. They are definitely lap dogs. The Chihuahua can be bold and quick witted. Watch out for intruders ankles who trespass with the Chihuahuas approval. Expose your Chihuahua to visitors at an early age so they will learn to accept them graciously. Chihuahuas are usually barkers. They usually bond well with other Chihuahua housemates. They are among the most devoted of all dogs. They bond deeply with their family forming a lifelong commitment to their people. It can be particularly devastating to a Chihuahua to be uprooted from loved ones. Do not get a Chihuahua unless you plan on keeping him for a lifetime.

If you're a saxophonist interested in playing any type of blues based music including rock and roll and even jazz then you need to use the blues scale as your number one tool to make things sound right.

A little history

If you want to investigate back to the beginnings of the blues as it came about in America just start with W.C. Handy, who was a black composer active in the early 1900's when the blues form began to get popularized in large part because of his instrumental compositions "Memphis Blues" (1912) and "St. Louis Blues" (1914). Of coarse the blues oral tradition can be traced back to the mid 1800's.

The blues scale

Because our western music has it's roots in European classical music the music theorists needed to notate the blues scale as it was naturally played and sung into an understandable notation which could be analyzed and played by western trained musicians.

The simplest way to explain it's theory is this:

Simply take the traditional major scale; C D E F G A B C and flatten the 3rd, 5th, and 7th. Now it looks like this: C D Eb E F Gb G A Bb C.

(Please look at the example on my website for the full musical notation). Notice the E, G, and B have been flattened, they are the 3rd, 5th and 7th notes of the C major scale and flattening them makes the scale sound minor thus giving it the "blues" or sad sound as opposed to the "major" or happy sound.

For us sax players these flat notes are perfect to incorporate a "growl" sound to further emphasize that "bluesy" expression or make it a bit more nasty. Two other things to notice; the 3rd and 5th can be played as a flat or not but the 7th generally is only played as a flat and not the major 7th in this type of scale or musical genre. (for some audio examples please refer to the website version of this article).

So now our basic major scale of 8 notes is now a blues scale of 10 notes. There are other variations to this blues scale; the basic version for example is a 7 note scale: C Eb F F# G Bb C (the F# being the same as the Gb). Adding the D, E natural and A give us more musical possibilities and will not change the basic sound of the blues scale. Even adding a flat 9th ( D flat) was a favorite thing Charlie Parker did a lot and is a good way to jazz up your phrases.

The blues progression

Of coarse this is all just words and notes and theory. You have to apply it and in any blues music this is done over a musical progression thats 12 measures in length, thus the term "12 bar blues".

We're in the key of C so the first 4 bars will be the C chord. The 5th and 6th bars change to the 4 chord which is F (4th note in the C scale).

The 7th and 8th bars change back to the 1 chord (C). The 9th and 10th bars change to the 5 chord, which is G. The 11th and 12th bars change back to the 1 chord (C). There are variations in this 12 bar pattern and can be seen on the website version of this article.

When starting out you can get away with just playing the same C blues scale over the entire progression but try to emphasize 1 or 2 of the notes in the F and G chord to make things a little more interesting. For example, over the F chord play an F or an A note to emphasize the harmonic color of the chord a little more.

In conclusion

The blues mean different things to many people ranging from musical styles to a way of life or philosophy. The blues do have musical influences from Europe and Africa but it is truly an American musical form and tradition fully rooted in the black experience of the post-war southern United States.

I want to be clear that when I talk about the blues or the blues scale I'm not only referring to this type of musical tradition and style but include funk, R&B, country, jazz and pop. Like the old saying goes; The blues had a baby and they names it rock & roll and from there came just about every form of pop music in western history since that explosive time in the mid 1900's

And so, I think it's safe to say that the blues scale is easily one of the most used and important scales for all types of western popular music.

Very Limited Edition. Includes a Bonus Six Track Disc and Different Artwork.
Customer Review: Well, Well. Yet another overpriced piece of work...
And I mean this literally. Should you own this? No. Should you get the ORIGINAL? The MORE AFFORDABLE version, with no lyrics and missing a bonus Japanese track, How You See The World? YES, MY *GOD* YES!! Cool, this version has an added song and the lyrics...(WHO DOESN'T LOVE READING ALONG?!?!?!). But at a price this over-bloated, PLEASE DON'T BOTHER!!!! No human with decent sense would pay for this!!!! Half of the tracks are upbeat which I prefer Coldplay's music to portray, and after studying this album's nooks and crannies, I found just TWO duds. b^_^b White Shadows, Fix You, Twisted Logic, Square One, Low, Speed Of Sound, Talk & X&Y are amongst the great tracks. But then you have filler tracks such as What If and Swallowed In The Sea. The rest of the CD is full of decent if just a tad forgetful tracks; A Message, The Hardest Part & Till Kingdom Come definitely fill my mind first. I was SO looking forward to this release because I have their 2 previous albums and I highly enjoyed tracks such as In My Place, Clocks and Daylight, for their uplifting, positive demeanor. Coldplay has an interesting lyric here and there, and my initial thoughts told me that it wasn't enough. White Shadows was a low point for me, but thank goodness I seen a quirky but awesome video to accompany the song, and I was totally, totally hooked! With that said, I can't wait to experience their new sound in mid-late 2008 or early 2009: I bet they release it around then and it'd be best if it were better than this one! Or at least here's to hoping... *Cheers* Keep it comin', Coldplay! You have fans other than the emotional girls that follow you. Customer Review: Well, I can rate the first 13 tracks...
I don't have this import version, but I WOULD get it if it were 25 bucks or less. 46 bucks + is super-ridiculous and anyone who shells out that much is either: 1. Stupidly rich 2. Rich and stupid 3. Satellite Radio is the future of broadcasting

Satellite Radio, in short, can be described as commercial-free music, news, sports and talk shows. Many of the biggest players and events are now available from Sirius radio and XM radio like Howard Stern, Fred Schneider (the B52s), NFL, English Soccer, NBA, NASCAR, NHL, Major League Baseball, INDY, and the PGA.

Satellite radio began in 1992, when the S spectrum was allocated by the FCC to four companies. The two main ones, Sirius and XM paid a pretty penny (in fact almost $80 million dollars worth) to buy a license. Satellite-based radio began on May 15th, 2001 when XM Radio completed their satellite system. Sirius followed shortly when they launched in July, 2001. Since then, expanded products and competition has changed the radio landscape.

While automobile manufacturers started installing satellite radio in 2001 and 2002, most new vehicles come equipped with one now. XM has two satellites (called Rock and Roll) in parallel orbits to cover the mainland US market, while Sirius has three. Both have recently been awarded licenses for the Canadian market.

So what are the differences between the two providers?

XM has a flat $9.99 a month fee with no contracts to sign. They have the latest portable equipment. XM offers some of the best varieties of programming available today. They offer 68 commercial-free music channels; 32 channels of News, Sports, Talk & Entertainment; and 21 channels of instant Traffic & Weather in major metro areas. Here's the latest information of channels:

I'm sure most of us wish that years ago, when we first started playing the guitar, we would have had access to guitar tabs. Unfortunately, for those of us who were playing and performing through the sixties, seventies, and eighties, guitar tabs had not been perfected yet. To learn a song, many guitarists were forced to place their ears up against a speaker and learn the song in real time. Of course, for those who could sight read music, the task of learning a song was quite simple.

In today's musical environment, guitar tabs have become a great source for learning songs, guitar solos, and guitar chords quickly. It's very important however, not to rely on guitar tabs as a substitute for an authentic music education. Guitarists who intend on progressing to the national and international stage should constantly strive to become more educated.

Nothing can replace a thorough knowledge of music theory. Especially when it pertains to guitar. Perhaps you've heard the old saying, the guitar is the easiest instrument to learn, but the hardest to master. There's a good reason for this saying. There are hundreds and hundreds of musical options that can be utilized on the guitar when approaching any playing situation. In other words, the more informed choices one has regarding an approach to a particular musical scenario, the better the outcome. Informed choices are a result of authentic education.

Imagine walking on to a stage with complete strangers. The musical director announces that the song structure is a ii, IV, vi, V, I chord progression in the key of five flats and to extend the IV chord to it's furthest diatonic extension. The very next thing heard is the drummer clicking off the tempo. This scenario would be quite intimidating for many guitarists.

All of the guitar tabs in the world won't help in that scenario. In other words, for those who had been relying only on guitar tabs for his/her musical background, the above referenced chord progression would, most likely, turn into a musical train wreck. Contrast that with an ability to walk on to any stage, with any artist group, and play through every chord progression, in any key signature. Once again, guitar tabs do not, generally, educate one in overall music theory. Most often, guitar tabs help one learn to play something that already exists.

Visit any music store in the world. There is bound to be someone sitting on an amplifier speed picking arpeggios or some other scale. At first glance, many might think that this individual is very, very, talented. In fact, he/she might very well be very talented. However, if this individual has been relying only on guitar tabs, he/she would, most likely fall short, if confronted with a difficult chord progression or key signature change.

Far too many guitar players are relying on speed and flash! However, when all is said and done, the individuals that have taken the time to learn their instrument and all related music theory will, most likely, be the most successful overall. It's actually very complimentary to get a late night call from a producer who needs help with creating a well-constructed guitar solo or help with the overall flow and dynamics of a song. Once again, guitar tabs, in general, will not help in this situation. However, education will!

Confidence, as a guitarist, is a great feeling. Knowledge of chord construction, chord function, guitar scales, guitar scale formulas, key signatures, extended guitar chords, altered guitar chords, chord inversions, guitar chord and guitar scale substitution principles (and so much more) is the greatest confidence builder that a guitarist, or any musician, could hope for. Take the time to study and learn. Your hard work and dedication to the guitar will pay off.

There are so many very good music institutes, colleges, and guitar methods that can help in the quest for education. However, make sure that any program will deliver an authentic education and not just bits and pieces of music theory. Most importantly, do not procrastinate. If musical opportunity knocks, be prepared to open the door. The key here is preparation through education.

Guitar tabs are great tools. Use them for what they are. Education is your best bet for maintaining longevity in your chosen field, playing the guitar. Until next time, practice, practice, practice.

In Subtle Tones

A fusion of rock, jazz and ethnic sounds with poetic lyrics and great musicianship.

"If you like Sting, Coldplay, Radiohead and Peter Gabriel ... you're going to love the music of Larry Edoff"
Customer Review: MUST HEAR!!!!!
Larry Edoff is an amazing artist of passion and depth. His incredible music is so rich, so textured - an intricate mix of off-the-charts musicianship with the heart of someone who lives and sees with eyes wide open. Check out his music - it will touch you in ways you've never known possible! Like fresh, cool water when parched with thirst!! I can't say it loud enough - check him out!!
Customer Review: You'll like this CD at 1st listen - you'll LOVE it the 2nd
I love this CD and I encourage anyone who likes the music of Sting, Peter Gabriel or Coldplay to buy "In Subtle Tones" by Larry Edoff -- you won't be disappointed. Thirteen songs (that don't all sound alike) over 50 minutes of great music, a lyric booklet (with print that you can actually read) and a really nice eco-friendly package. It's hard to choose a favorite song from this CD because they are all really good - not one dud on the album! Larry Edoff is a very talented musician and songwriter with a strong, clear, beautiful voice. "Don't Go Silent" is powerful and moving "She Waits For Me" wonderfully romantic "In Subtle Tones" is my favorite lyrically "Listen To My Heart" will have you dancing in no time "Fine Art of Standing" has a bit of a country/Americana sound "Watch Out Where You're Going" is funky and fun (you'll become addicted to this one it's so catchy) "So Far" reminds me of a timeless ballad (a lovely song) "15 Time" is an amazing song and if I had to choose just one, it would be my favorite (reminds me of the band Traffic, the "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" album in particular) Sit down with a glass of wine and experience this CD from start to finish.

Listener Supported is the latest release from Dave Matthews Band, and I can only think of one word to describe it AWESOME!

It's a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I can truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I'm more than happy to announce thats exactly what I must say about this one. There simply is NOT a bad one in the bunch. No fillers here at all.

Dave Matthews Band is one of those groups that have the ability to just bowl you over with their collective talent. The kind of musicians its really a treat to be able to listen to.

Overall Listener Supported is excellent from beginning to end. One of those CDs that after a few listens the songs are just etched into your memory. A must have for the Rock fan. Really spectacular from beginning to end.

While this entire album is really very good the truly standout tunes are Disc 1 - Track 2 - Pantala Naga Pampa, Disc 1 - Track 7 - Crash Into Me, and Disc 2 - Track 10 - All Along The Watchtower.

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is Disc 2 - Track 7 - Long Black Veil. This is a great track!

Getz/Gilberto

Originally released in March 1964, this collaboration between saxophonist Stan Getz and guitarist João Gilberto came at seemingly the end of the bossa nova craze Getz himself had sparked in 1962 with Jazz Samba, his release with American guitarist Charlie Byrd. Jazz Samba remains the only jazz album to reach number one in the pop charts. In fact, the story goes that Getz had to push for the release of Getz/Gilberto since the company did not want to compete with its own hit; it was a good thing he did. Getz/Gilberto, which featured composer Antonio Carlos Jobim on piano, not only yielded the hit "Girl from Ipanema" (sung by Astrud Gilberto, the guitarist's wife, who had no professional experience) but also "Corcovado" ("Quiet Night")--an instant standard, and the definitive version of "Desafinado." Getz/Gilberto spent 96 weeks in the charts and won four Grammys. It remains one of those rare cases in popular music where commercial success matches artistic merit. Bossa nova's "cool" aesthetic--with its understated rhythms, rich harmonies, and slightly detached delivery--had been influenced, in part, by cool jazz. Gilberto in particular was a Stan Getz fan. Getz, with his lyricism, the bittersweet longing in his sound, and his restrained but strong swing, was the perfect fit. His lines, at once decisive and evanescent, focus the rest of the group's performance without overpowering. A classic. --Fernando Gonzalez
Customer Review: Wonderful Music!
Wonderful and relaxing music. Very soft, wonderful sound tracks. There are two soundtracks of "The Girl From Ipanema," with the first being the ultimate recording. I would highly recommend this CD for anyone who enjoys cool jazz or any relaxing International-style music.
Customer Review: A Serendipitous Masterpiece
In history, seemingly all great things are happenstance. One could certainly say the same about this serendipitous recording. A quiet, gentle, beautiful record of 8 songs (and 2 reprises) it created a time capsule of that era that surprisingly stands up to todays standards. A great album to relax to, put it on when you need to seriously unwind without drugs or alcohol. It works amazingly well.

Ringtones are big business. The Yankee Group announced that over the last five years, these musical tones have sent people literally singing to the bank, with a total revenue of $2 billion since 2001, and $50 million in one year alone.

The figures show how popular ringtones have become among cell phone users, who download the files to personalize their caller functions. They can pick from millions of songs, from the latest hit R&B single, to quirky sounds like cows mooing, to the classical pieces of Ludwig van Beethoven. Technological development has also made the audio quality of the ringtones much more realistic. From the ear-piercing, tin-like sounds of the first downloadable tunes, todays music pieces have a near-radio quality. You could dance to it, except youd look pretty silly shaking your booty while taking a call.

Unfortunately, the realistic quality of the musical pieces have raised a few ethical issues, namely violation of copyright. Since the sound of the ringtones and the sound of the actual songs are so close, record companies are saying that they count as reproductionsand because of that, they should pay some kind of royalty to the labels and the singers.

In a celebrated case, rap artist Eminem filed injunctions against five ringtone companies, supposedly because they had used his songs without his prior consent.

Some would argue that the ringtones only use ten seconds, maximum, of the actual song. How long should a snippet be before it becomes copyright infringement? Nokia representative Matthew Courtney believes that it has nothing to do with length. "Every reproduction of a musical excerpt involves payment of copyright fees to the copyright owner," he says.

There are some songs that fall beyond this rule, such as those that fall into public domain: classical pieces, national anthems, and yes, a cow mooing. (To date, there are no records of cows suing any major ringtone company.) Others still require the permission of the artists, and may even be subject to royalty fees.

Luckily most artists are not that inclined to sue, seeing the ringtones as a way of promoting their music, and perhaps a compliment to their own popularity. In a way, being immortalized in a ringtone has become a gauge of how ones music has infiltrated public consciousness. Besides, nobody actually downloads a ringtone as a replacement for an actual record. A real fan would want more than a ten second recording out of a three minute song, although would probably use that snippet to announce to the world, Hey, this tune rocks.

However, trends do indicate that fans may actually be willing to pay for their polyphonic ringtones. Music label EMI representative Jay Samit estimates that the earnings form ringtones could contribute as much as 10% of the record industrys total revenues. Apparently, the appeal of ringtones is that strong people arent just downloading it because its free, but because its a valued feature.

Of course, many polyphonic ringtones still allow people to download the tunes for free, generating their revenue from ads instead. Others use a mixture of the two business models, offering some for free (or a weekly rotating list) while requiring a small download fee for premium ringtones.

Either way, lawsuits notwithstanding, the fact is that ringtones are here to stay.

Polyphonics.eu.com provides fully licensed polyphonic ringtones as well as all the latest real tones.

Although Lisa Marie has managed to keep her children protected from the spotlight, she has recently gone public with her own musical work.

Lisa has not chosen to go the route of acting at this time. However, she has gone public with several press releases and appearances on news programs. I was able to catch an episode of Primetime Live, which featured Lisa Marie Presley for a full segment.

The news commentator interviewed Lisa and asked her many questions about her life and her past. One of the things they did was show side-by-side film footage of Lisa Marie performing, alongside her father, Elvis Presley. The two performances were at least 25 years apart, in time, but were spliced together to view Elvis and Lisa singing and dancing to show similarities.

Although Lisa is unique in her own right, there are many uncanny similarities between her and her father. Let's face it, it's only natural for this to happen. And we love it!

The Way Lisa holds a microphone and moves around and gazes at the camera are strikingly similar to the way Elvis would sing and dance, and sneer at the camera himself. Lisa Marie Presley is undoubtedly very talented and has decided to reflect her talent publicly at this time. The video chosen to display Lisa Marie's singing ability was the main track from her new CD, To Whom It May Concern. The main track is titled Lights Out.

In fact, the film clip from the video, Lights Out, was the clip shown next to the film footage of her father, taken from Elvis' 1968 Comeback Special, featuring him in his black leather outfit.

Although Lisa was not dressed in black leather, her clothes were flashy, and her whole aura reflected that of Elvis Presley.

I think that even though much of the major public are not all that crazy about Elvis impersonator's, the music industry, and Elvis fans alike, are really craving an entertaining personality with the talent and charisma of Elvis Presley.

I believe that even though much of Lisa Marie's facial expressions, moves, and natural looks are very close to her father Elvis, the people are going to accept this because not only are these features completely natural, they are expected of any offspring of Elvis Presley.

Lisa Marie's personality, the words she chooses to use, her facial expressions, especially the way she would raise one eyebrow up, open her eyes wide, and gaze at the camera when pleasantly making a joke out of a statement, was especially reminiscent of her father but also very refreshing.

During a very intimate portion of the interview, Lisa Marie stated that she has had some experience with drug use. However, she went on to clarify that she now lives a pretty clean life, for the most part. She shared stories about her past marriages, her children, her mother Priscilla, and memories of her father, Elvis.

Primetime Live also showed some home movies of Elvis, Priscilla, and Lisa Marie in their home environment with Elvis spending time with his family, and playing games with them. As Lisa sat there watching it along with everyone else, her facial expression began to change from perhaps having her guard up and being ready for difficult personal questions, to one of gentle, sweet, memories and peace.

It is certainly very sad that Lisa had to lose her father so early in her life. She seemed to go through things in her life that reflected the pain and difficulty she experienced with losing her father so soon.

With all the difficult times in Lisa's life, along with the good times, she has come a long way personally and professionally.

Lisa did comment on her marriage to Michael Jackson, but didn't spend much time on the subject. She spent more time talking about her relationship and marriage with her first husband, Danny Keough. This is the first marriage during which Lisa had a child. Danny Keough also became a member of Lisa's band in 2004.

While Lisa was in her late teens, and early twenties, she was managed by Jerry Schilling. Mr. Schilling is one of the original members of the Memphis Mafia, who went on to accomplish a successful business career in show biz after Elvis died.

A piece of trivia that would be interesting to all. Lisa Marie Presley's children provided backup vocals for her on her recent CD titled, To Whom It May Concern.

Por el Mundo

Customer Review: POR EL MUNDO IS A GREAT CD!
What can I say I LOVE THIS CD! But whats so good about it well number 1 I love the lead singers voice (Jose Guadalupe). To me he has a voice to kill for but thats just my opinion you might think diferently. But as far as i'm concerned i think this is a super album to buy cause every song on here is so good my personal favorite well... it would have to be number 3 (Aqui No Mas.) I just love that song I can not explain the feeling I get when I hear this song it makes me feel so good inside not to metion like I want to dance. but the song (Espinas) is good to hey there all good thats why I think you should buy this cd you will love it if you like banda musica like I do. Look i'm going to be honest with you I would never tell someone to buy a cd I never herd or thought was not a good cd to buy thats how I am but everybody has different taste in musica so u may like it may not but I know I love it and i'm so glad i bought it I would never get rid of it. Even though it is an old album of theres I still listen to it to this day thats how much I love this cd it was one of the best investments i ever made. I am a musica freak and I love mexican musica and and if you do to buy this cd.

What in the world would you and I do if there was no such thing as music?

Can you imagine a world without music? No songs, no tunes, no rock, no roll, no jazz, no hymns, no boogie-woogie, no country-western, no symphonies. No singing in the shower. No whistling Dixie.

Lovers wouldnt have songs to romance to. There would be no such thing as our song. Sinatra couldnt fly to the moon. Elvis couldnt complain about people stepping on his blue suede shoes. Tony Bennett would have to write a letter about how he left his heart in San Francisco. Willie might go on the road again, but without a guitar. And Ray Charles would look pretty strange up on stage without a piano telling us that Georgia is on his mind.

Then when the wedding day arrived, what would the bride march down the isle to? A poem? Silence? Applause? And when the happy couple marched out of the church together, would they do it to the bark of neighborhood dogs, or perhaps all the wedding guests talking at once?

And at the reception, what would they dance to? The Funky Chicken just isnt the same without music. Since rhythm is part of music, no drums would even be allowed.

And the honeymoon I suppose would take place with radio news on, or perhaps the educational channel accompanied by the drone of an air-conditioner.

When baby arrives, do we lull her to sleep with a reading from Shakespeare? Or perhaps random readings from the dictionary or encyclopedia? Could we bore her to sleep with words?

Nursery rhymes would have to be chanted or recited instead of sung. School music programs would of course be non-existent, as would school choirs and orchestras and bands. When the school football team plays, there would be no school fight song. Cheerleaders would have to cheer and dance minus any music.

And when those birthdays roll around, we would have to all recite together in a monotone happy birthday to you.

And when duty calls, what would soldiers march to? What would take the place of music in parades, since there would be no marching bands? John Philip Sousa would have had to get a day job.

And on the 4th of July there would be no patriotic songs just speeches. At Christmas time there would be no Christmas carols. No rousing gospel music at Easter, no hymns in church.

And can you imagine radio without music? Nothing but news and talk shows and bla bla bla bla.

I dont know about you, but Ive had it up to here just thinking about it. Im heading for the piano now to celebrate the fact that our Creator gave us the wonderful and inspiring and uplifting gift of music that we all take for granted.

I think Ill play a nursery rhyme or two, then the wedding march, then Silent Night, then Auld Lang Syne, then Fur Elise, then the blues, then a little jazz, then and then...

From the beginning of time, dance has been a societal activity. Dancing in groups was popular and dances were open, no close proximity touching of partners. In the nineteenth century, about 1880, a dance, the tango, emerged in Buenos Aires. It was born in the poor areas and brothels of the city and made its way gradually into the upper class homes of the rich. Argentina was a very rich country and many of its inhabitants had vacation homes in Paris and London. They took the tango with them when they went abroad.

The origin and meaning of the word tango appears to have come from an African word. Its translation by Europeans and others in the Americas was "a closed space where Negroes gather to dance" and then later the name of the dance.

The tango that was born in the brothels of Argentina had overt sexual undertones and many considered it vulgar. As it moved from class group to class group, the dance changed. The main ingredient of the dance, the connection between the two partners, did not change. It evolved into a more sensuous, acceptable form in society. If you watch ballroom dancing competitions, you will see the tango performed by the contestants. This is a diluted version of the dance.

Dancing itself is a romantic activity. When you dance, you are in close proximity of your partner. You move for and with each other. A truly romantic gift for Valentine Day is Argentine Tango lessons for the two of you. After you have learned the dance, create a romantic setting for the two of you:

  • Create an invitation for your loved one, inviting them to dinner and dance.
  • Purchase a CD of your favorite tango music.
  • Prepare a meal of their favorite food.
  • Add candles and flowers to the table.
  • Use your best china, silverware, and crystal.
  • Push back the furniture in the living room for dance space.
  • Eat your romantic dinner.
  • Dim the lights.
  • Work off your romantic dinner by dancing the Argentine Tango.
  • End your evening of romance in a way that suits the two of you.

The Argentine Tango is one of the most sensuous and romantic dances in the world. Each partner must concentrate and focus on the presence, the body, and the emotions of their partner. They must feel each other. The Argentine Tango is a dance in which the partners can express their desire and longing for each other.

What a truly wonderful romantic gift for Valentine Day or any time of the year.

Whatever It Takes Mug - Coldplay

What you see - With the boom in the social scene and a considerable increase in purchasing power, the metro finally got what it desperately needed with Bottles 'n' Chimney - an exclusive night-club with plush sofas, winding staircase and thumping music.

What you get - The first level of B&C (as it is popularly known) is a quiet lounge, while the ground floor has a lot more life in it. And the bar - bang in the center of the floor - is the obvious hub of activity. There are also two tiny dance floors, one on each level, with the music being played ranging from trance and club music to remixes and Indian theme music.

The club also has a large screen put up mainly for movies and sports. In fact during FIFA, the club was transformed into a football-lover's paradise. This tradition has continued through all the sporting events that followed. In fact this was the place which set the precedent in terms of starting the pub and cricket obsession in Hyderabad by putting up large screens. B&C also holds various events including concerts, food festivals and beer-guzzling contests, to entertain its guests.

Finally, for the uninitiated, Bottles & Chimney got its name from the surnames of its owners - Sanjay Batla and Sanjay Chimnani. Now how's that for subliminal self-advertisement?

The verdict - The crowd frequenting this place consists of working professionals in the age group of 25-35. Therefore, apart from good crowd, the assets of B&C are great music, affordability and a decent variety of drinks. However, the club could do with better lighting as it has too many corners plunged in darkness.
